In order to take a major standardized exam on my laptop, I am required to have a clean hard drive, with no data except what is necessary to write the exam. Unfortunately, I am not allowed to use software that blocks access to my hard drive while writing the exam. I really don’t want to lose all of my data and programs — is there a way to move the contents of my current hard drive on to an external drive? Or will I either have to erase everything or get a new computer? I am especially concerned about my itunes library, I have had difficulties after transferring music files between user accounts on my hard drive in the past. Thank you for your help!!!

¿ doesn’t sound right, you have to erase drive to write exam with it?, maybe remove drive, place smaller new drive, install windows, and leave old drive as is, maybe verify what they mean by clean, so don’t erase yet, and you should be allowed to have firewall and anti-virus running, so keep asking around as to whats going on there, ask administrators of school for clarity,
if you are correct as stated, verify amount of space needed to copy files over to new drive, then copy over to external or other computer,
maybe they mean that you can’t have answers to questions or cheat sheets on drive for references,
..
ah……..
madboot.com, you can do format on the harddrive and reinstall windows
Seems like an unusual demand to place upon a person…??
You can buy a new Hard Drive for the laptop,,,prices range from as little as $40 to $100 for most typical ones,,,and on up
depending upon size,specs,etc.
They can be installed in an "Extermal Case"($10~20) which has a USB cable hangling from it,
So the thing becomes an External Drive,,,,and works like a big USB Flash Drive.
You can use it in the future for back-up,or portable storage,,mass storage.
Making it not a bad investment.
It’s TRICKY in some way to make them the BOOT DRIVE.
Where You’d have Only the External Drive connected to your laptop.
But it’s possible.
Easiest is to install a clean drive INTO Your Laptop as it’s main hard drive for your exam,,,
then remove it Later for your own use as an external.
You’d have to Install Windows XP,,or whatever Operating System you use.
Here’s some $40-70 range examples,,,
all good drives,,40~120GB.

Here’s some of the External Cases,,
They’re smaller than they look,,,will fit in a shirt pocket.
Use them same as a USB Flash Drive,,ya can plug ’em into any PC or Laptop to transfer stuff, whatever.
Just an Idea
Good luck with Your Exam!
