I’v had Win XP-Home edition on my PC for a long time without problems but I need help figuring this issue out :
There are 5 different logon user-accts within my household and as of this morning, 2 of them will not keep the personal settings. Both still have their desktop shortcuts but the background display & screensaver settings are gone and when I reset/apply them….. no changes occur. Their start-up button is cleared out as well. I tried to right-click the programs to pin them back onto the menu but it’s ignored. Also, when I double-click Internet Explorer to go online; it opens as if they are logging on for the first time asking for IE settings, etc…..it doesn’t go to their previously set homepages. Only from those 2 accounts though….the other 3 are okay. (I can still change the display, logon to IE and the homepages are still intact.) I have run every anti-virus; registry cleaner; ad-ware/mal-ware/spyware that I have. They detect nothing! Any ideas for me?Thanks!
Well, after all day of trying to find a solution; it seems as though I will have to delete & reset those user accounts. I have already backed-up their files and such to an external HD. Another question…is there a way to save their IE favorites so that they don’t have to "start from scratch" after logging onto the internet from the new XP accts?
Thanks everyone for the help!
In order to take a major standardized exam on my laptop, I am required to have a clean hard drive, with no data except what is necessary to write the exam. Unfortunately, I am not allowed to use software that blocks access to my hard drive while writing the exam. I really don’t want to lose all of my data and programs — is there a way to move the contents of my current hard drive on to an external drive? Or will I either have to erase everything or get a new computer? I am especially concerned about my itunes library, I have had difficulties after transferring music files between user accounts on my hard drive in the past. Thank you for your help!!!
How do I wipe business computer clean of data?
I own a small business. We have about six Windows XP Pro PCs that we are donating to charity. We’d like to wipe them clean of user accounts and data first. What do you recommend that’s cheap and easy? Also, how do we remove these computers from our network domain so that they don’t cause issues later for the non-profit?
I need help w/ a corrupt registry-I have a windows xp recovery disk but have never used it?
It started several months ago, my system 32 files pop up @ startup-so I ran a free scan of my registry and it shows over a thousand errors-the free downloads only fix a few of them in the trial version-I DO have a windows xp recovery disk, but I am afraid I will do more damage that good. I have tried to use the restore feature, but the only dates it will let me select are for this month only-the pc is 3 years old…I tried to toggle back a year or so, but the month on the calendar is stuck on December. (I was under the impression that restore points auto-set when new programs are added ???)
If I attempt to install flash on my secondary user accounts, I get errors saying a system 32 file can’t be found.
I have used the uninstall program from adobe and reinstalled it then ran c-cleaner, cleared cookies, I have rebooted, adjusted all user accounts to have admin. privledges, tried everything I can find online with no luck. Can someone help, please?
