I have a Toshiba laptop running on Windows Vista. I also have Bell South Fast access DSL. When I first got everything I was able to run games like America’s Army perfectly on higher graphics. Now it seems everything is slower, and I have major lag problems in my video games.
Is there anything I can do (for free) to speed up my computer and internet?
Thanks in advance.

First, backup all your data to an external medium.
Then, assuming you have no hardware issues, do this:
(1) Run a FULL anti-virus scan with a good virus scanner. Get free editions of Avast or Antivir. Use the latest virus definitions file. But don’t install or run more than one anti-virus at the same time.

(2) Run anti-spyware scans with Super Anti-spyware and malwarebytes free editions.

(3) Ensure all Microsoft security updates are applied.
(4) Run disk cleanup to delete old temp files and other junk
(5a) Run chkdsk once to scan for file system errors. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315265
(5b) Run a thorough disk defrag. Use a good defragmenter for this, and also run a boot-time defrag to fix the MFT and page file if they are fragmented. You can check out Diskeeper 2009, which is widely acknowledged to be the best defragger around. Their website has free 30-day trial versions. http://www.diskeeper.com
(6) Disable unnecessary background processes and services that take up memory.
(7) Make sure all the hardware components have the latest and most stable drivers. Video card performance in particular is strongly dependent on drivers.
You do not need to clean out the registry or mess with the registry in ANY way whatsoever. Deleting a wrong key from the registry can damage your operating system.
Good Luck!

With regards to your computer, you can add more memory to it. You can also use registry cleaners. Maybe there are files being cluttered on your computer. Install antivirus program to protect your computer to these malicious attacks as it also causes your pc to perform slower.
Add more memory to the laptop would help. Clean the laptop of useless programs and deleted the internet temp files. Use a program call ccleaner @ http://www.ccleaner.com and also defrag your hard drive.
Use CCleaner (free download)…
Good luck…:D
disk cleanup and disk defragmenter (do it over night)
Im no pro, but you could try deleting the cookies.
You could try reformatting the computer with the discs the Toshiba came with. That’ll get it like it was brand new.
On your homescreen, press the windows key (in between Ctrl and Alt) and the letter "R." This will bring up the run screen. In the box, type "msconfig" (No quotes) and click OK. Choose the services tab and then check hide all microsoft services – This prevents you from turning off any Microsoft stuff. Now go through the list and anything that you recognize as not important, deselect it. Now choose the Startup tab and deselect familiar programs that you don’t need running in the background. DO NOT Deselect anything that you are unsure of. Look for programs like Adobe acrobat or winamp or quicktime. These can be accessed when needed, but don’t need to run in the background immediately from startup. Now choose Apply. Restart your computer and things should run a little smoother. Make sure you have anti-virus protection running.
