I know that cleaning out the computers registry enhances the pc’s performance and I’ve also heard of a lot of programs that you can download to do this but are they safe?
I guess I don’t want to download another program that is going to add more clutter and install hidden $hit.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I used to use CCleaner (http://www.ccleaner.com) which is free.
However, it doesn’t have any sort of backup facility which meant that one day, it deleted the wrong registry file and made my computer unable to boot up. I took it to the computer repair store and they wanted $150 to fix it
I now use a cleaner called "RegAce" because it’s easy to use and has a complete backup system which even makes a restore point on your computer. You can read about it here: http://www.fastregistryfixes.com/regace_review.html
I use RegistryFix .
It repairs registry problems to make your computer run like new again!
safely clean the errors & invalid entries cause system slow, freezing and crashing.

Don’t bother with it. You won’t notice the difference, and you could possibly mess something up.
If you feel that you MUST use a registry cleaner, then "Spyware Doctor" from PC Tools is a good one.
Don’t try to fix what ain’t broke!!!
Also try this one. Just decide for yourself what program you want, it’s all up to you. I use this on my system without problems.
http://www.ccleaner.com run the setup install and when you open the program click reg and then scan 4 issues and click fix and dont click backup and then fix all issues
Clean windows registry can speed up the computer.
Over time, you install new programs, uninstalled unimportant programs, update software’s, install new devices,
download files from the web, etcetera, hence embarking all records in the registry system.
This is normal, but it is not wise to leave it untouched.
Once in a while, you have to check and remove files that are no longer in use to maintain the speed of your PC.
Clean registry make pc faster.

safe program and free, plus has other good stuff, and i use it. is advanced systemcare at http://www.iobit.com
The Registry Integrity portion of the free CCleaner is about as good as any:

But honestly, the modern Windows registry is huge…there is plenty of room for extra crap in there. I have never seen much of a difference after doing a "cleaning" one way or the other. But YMMV.
