install the new hard drive in your laptop then Windows XP after that update drivers with the utility software and then you can install the virus software and connect to the internet most update version of drivers are online any way. But you don’t need to install all of the cd you received…that laptop was installed with so many things that are not needed. I have one and wiped so many things to keep laptop in order.
it is easy to put a new hard drive
If you are replacing your operating system hard drive, then you are essentially starting from scratch and need to reinstall your operating system and all of the drivers, plus all of your software.
Better options would be:
1) Get Norton Ghost, and make a copy of your current hard drive to put on the new one, and everything will be fine, with more space available (im assuming the new hard drive is bigger).
2) Just use the new hard drive as a storage drive inside the computer, and use it to store all of your media files (movies/music/photos/etc) as they tend to take up the most space on peoples computers these days.
Ok, first: do this:
1. Get someone who is TRAINED in computer maintainance to install the hard drive. DO NOT ATTEMPT IF YOU HAVE NOT RECIEVED TRAINING, YOU MAY END UP KILLING EITHER YOURSELF OR YOUR COMPUTER!
2. Reinstall your OS (i.e. XP, in your case)
3. Install all other software when you are done.
You are then done.
