I have already done everything else I can think of to free up disk space: Removed some programs; ran ccleaner; did disk defrag; cleaned up registry errors. If anyone has any other suggestions-I would very much appreciate it. I’m running Windows Vista Home Premium.
O.K. I get it it. I guess it’s time to buy an external hard drive. Thanx to those who answered.

It is fine to do that but remember to remove them completely.
Besides, Close down system restore function.
It can take up relatively large disk space.
So you can turn it off in the “My Computer”—“Properties”—“System Restore”.
You can create a restore point by yourself and click “Start”—“All Programs”—“Accessories”—“System Tools”—“Disk Cleanup”—“More Options”—“Clean up” in the “System Restore” column.
By doing this, the system will help you delete all but the most recent restore point. It is undoubted that the restore point wastes plenty of space in the computer.
And, close down “Hibernate” function which can waste more than 400M disk space.
Right-click the blank of desktop and click “Properties”.
In the “Display Properties” tab, click “Screen Saver”—“Power”.
In the “Power Options Properties”, choose “Hibernate” and cross out the tick of “Enable hibernation” and then click “OK” till you return to desktop.
Now, you have turned off it successfully.
Of course, you can delete the old Windows updates on your computer to free up disk space, but you should be careful enough. But no matter what you have deleted from your computer, it is recommended that you should run a disk defragmentation after the removal to make all files on the hard disk always stay at the same place of the hard disk. So they will be much easier to be accessed to and then speed up the computer.

NO – True, some updates can be un-installed but you will be tampering with patches and software that allows security- you might just need to get a new hard drive with more space. I am sure that isn’t what you ant to hear but Vista has known to be resource hungry. If you upgrade your HD – you might want to upgrade your memory (RAM) as well.
Also – you might want to change your virtual memory – which is another question for later topic.
Yes. but you might want to check what type of update it is like is it a security update, a sp update etc. i have deleted many but it wont make much of a difference if you delete one or two but i say you should leave it.
Windows updates can contain crucial security updates, so it’s NOT a good idea to delete them.
A lot of people have at least 1 gigabyte tied up in temporary files. Use CCleaner to clean those up. http://download.cnet.com/ccleaner/?tag=mncol
Then, defrag your hard drive using Defraggler (from the same company as CCleaner) http://download.cnet.com/Defraggler/3000-2248_4-10752905.html?tag=mncol
This should free up a decent amount of space on your hard drive, plus, if you haven’t done either, it will help speed up your computer significantly.
You need to be careful when doing something like that since sometimes one update depends on having an older update already installed.
Why would you uninstal the windows updates….The best way to free space is to buy another internal drive and put it as secondary drive.
