my aunt asked me to install Windows Vista Home Premium on her comp.,she had XP and it saysWindows Vista capable. When Installing I selected the Upgrade option instead of doing the clean installation. no problems installing, but afterwards everything is running slow. Ibrought the comp.to my house to use dsl &installed all the the windows updates in hopes that it would solve the slowness. When that was done the computer restarted itself &said it was configuring the updates & then when I came back to check on it Windows Boot Manager was on the screen saying:
"Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:
1.Insert you Windows installation disc and restart your computer.
2. Choose your language settings, and then click NEXT
3. Click REPAIR YOUR COMPUTER
…File: \windows\system32\winload.exe status: 0xc000000f

When i put the vista or the hp reinstall disc in nothing happens. PLEASE help I really dont want to lose everthing. THANKS.
I can’t get past the Windows Boot Manager, I tried pressing F8 to try and get it back to last known good configuration, but pressing F8 doesn’t do anything. I’d be happy if I could just get back to the XP version so she doesn’t lose any of her programs, and then trying to re-install Vista while connected to the internet.

So not too long ago I was messing around with the browserui.dll and shell32.dll files in the system32 file in windows. One thing led to another and I had to run "sfc /scannow" in the Command window to repair my files -_-

After a successful scan and restart, everything seemed to be perfectly fine. At least, until I tried to run a few programs. I started to get problems from the Stardock programs, mainly LogonStudio Vista. Now everytime I try to run it, an error pops up saying "LogonStudio has stopped working."
I tried a number of different supposed solutions, from reinstalling my .net framework, to uninstalling all Stardock programs and cleaning my registry. Nothing is working, and the problem persists. This also occurs with Stardock Impulse.

I have a Gateway desktop, Windows Vista Home Premium, SP2.
I was afraid someone was going to mention re-installing windows 🙁

But that’s a last resort solution. I’m not there just yet.

Can anyone tell me ANY ways, free programs, guides, or tips to make windows vista home premium, internet explorer, firefox, windows mail, limewire, itunes, aim6,windows searches, or any other virus/spyware removal programs , or any other big memory usage or slow programs faster! Also, any ways to make any programs use less memory or ram, and improve overall ram usage and memory usage!

The person that tells me the most ways that work gets ten points. Any and all tips or tricks, tweaks are appreciated!

I have 2 gigs of ram, i disk defrag/ cleanup/ registry clean, virus and spyware scan all the time!

Also, any tips on lowering cpu usage???

I have already done everything else I can think of to free up disk space: Removed some programs; ran ccleaner; did disk defrag; cleaned up registry errors. If anyone has any other suggestions-I would very much appreciate it. I’m running Windows Vista Home Premium.
O.K. I get it it. I guess it’s time to buy an external hard drive. Thanx to those who answered.
