I am simply interested in computer/software programming simply because it is a great skill to have, but I don’t want a degree in it seeing as how I’m a senior in college fixing to graduate.
If so what is the best method of learning programming languages and systems?
And also what kind of computer is most used because I have a Powerbook G4 and I am definitely looking at the new Macbook’s because of their ability to run Windows.
Thanks for the help!

No offense buddy, this does not sound like a student in college!

Nevertheless, if you are serious about this then I highly recommend you take at least the first two semesters of Computer Science for non-Computer Science majors. You can also find a Community College that offers introductory courses for non-credit. Yes there are lots of free tutorials out there but if you plan to add this skill to your resume then you are wasting time. Object-Oriented programming, stacks, priority queues, maps, arrays, and recursive methods are just a very few of the many concepts and constructs you will have to learn. The two programming languages I recommend are Java and C++. Good luck!
Well im a freshman in highschool and i know java, c# , c ++ ,and some vb
the main way i learnd how to program is bascily just tutorials and trial and error
but it your looking manily for games go to xna.com and that have some good gaming program tuts hope it helps
There are many ways to learn programming online. One of the best websites that I have found is http://www.lynda.com/ It has a ton of videos cover just about every type of programming.
Also, since you said that you are a senior in college and since the job market is so tough, you should check out http://www.goozleology.com/recommends/sbi-college-student.html
Yes, definitely possible. Just like you can do basic arithmetic without a math degree. I won’t agree that programming in general is a great skill to have, but if you are interested in web programming, that is a different story.
Just like math can solve daily life issues with budget, interest rate and time consumption, having some basic web programming knowledge will help you in express yourself better at internet world.
And the easiest way to learn about programming is through web programming too. You can start with HTML and CSS, and later on with PHP, MySQL, Javascript and XML.
And you should not worry about the system and the computer so much (Powerbook G4 should work fine). The computer languages which I listed above are very system friendly.
However, if you are interested in creating animation, mulitplayer games, voice recognition…. it will be slightly difficult to learn without a degree. Having said that, learning web programming will still help you build a fundamental in programming. It’s cumulative 🙂
