MacBook update problem?

Hi i just bought a used MacBook from a friend i have been having a problem when trying to use the software update. it says in network diagnostics "network diagnostics was able to connect to the internet but not to the server "(not showing the server for privacy reasons)" This could be caused by problems with the server, or an internet problem between this computer and the server."

I pretty sure it has somthing to do with my friends job he works at thats why i did not supply the server name i just want to know how to change the setting to allow me to update my software from my home wifi thanks

I know from diagnostic software that my macbook’s hard drive has a lot of bad sectors.

It also is very slow to access any data, to the point of being effectively unusable, fails to run many applications, and uses up so much power that the battery barely gains any excess stored power, because all of the power is going to the computer. As a result of this, the battery and charger get very hot.

Is this likely to be the result of the hard drive problems, making the solution hard drive replacement, or is there likely to be another problem – and if so, what?

Thanks in advance! x

I am simply interested in computer/software programming simply because it is a great skill to have, but I don’t want a degree in it seeing as how I’m a senior in college fixing to graduate.

If so what is the best method of learning programming languages and systems?

And also what kind of computer is most used because I have a Powerbook G4 and I am definitely looking at the new Macbook’s because of their ability to run Windows.

Thanks for the help!

The screen on my dell laptop is about to pack in. The cost of repair is £350 so thinking of getting a new one instead.

If I buy a macbook, will my windows office software work on it? If not, will the documents, emails etc I already have transfer from PC to Mac, and work?

Thanks

I know PCs inside and out, can repair software, Windows, and hardware. I have had a MacBook for the past year and I love it, but have found there aren't any places around me that repair them. Any suggestions?
