now what I want to know is, is there a good program out there that will scan my computer for drivers and if I don’t have a driver or a driver is not updated it will find the best or most appropriate for the hardware and update the driver or install a better version of driver? I ask because I seem to not be able to get sound playing from my speakers, and i suspect it is either no drivers are installed or outdated drivers are on my computer because I just installed Windows XP a few days ago.
Now don’t forget that I said a free program, and to me free means 100% free, like freeware programs. I do not want shareware because most of the trials/demos only scan your computer to tell you that you have a problem(and why would you need a program like this if you don’t suspect there is a problem?), but then to fix it you must then purchase the program so only suggest freeware/free programs.

The guy above me is wrong, there is a free program that downloads outdated drivers, visit driveragent.com download software(free) then it will show you all missing/outdated drivers and it will download them for you
This program is completely free!!! =]
to now you driver is install or not right click on my computer click properties on tab click hardware and click device manager
if you see ! it’s not install
http://www.driverguide.com have a program that will scan your computer for drivers.
Everest home edition, Aida32 and SISOFT sandra are hardware diagnostic programs which will tell you what your Motherboard make and model is and also what kind of PCI cards you have inserted in your system.
Then all you have to do is go to the manufacturers website to
download the drivers. If you have old drivers then you may have
to download them from driverguide. Driverguide is free but you
have to be a member.
You will need to do this by hand. Have a look at the device manager. You should be able to quickly tell if your sound card is detected and the driver properly loaded.
There is such a software, what you need is Driver Detective – http://www.drivershq.com/
Once installed it automatically checks and updates all of your drivers
