Whenever I am trying to format the hard disk of my toshiba laptop it is giving me the following message. Make sure any hard drives are powered on and properly connected to your computer and that any disk related hardware configuration is correct. This may involve running a manufacturer-supplied diagnostic or setup program.
Setup can’t continue. What would be the problem? May be the disk is sata if so then from where should I download the other softwares for it with the xpsp2 cd.

If your Toshiba has Windows Vista on it you will need to download and install the raid drivers for your sata drive, if available. You will need to install them when your XP installation asks for third party drivers. You will also have to make sure the CD/DvD drive is set to boot first in the bios.
XP is so old it doesn’t know what a sata drive is. If your laptop is recent there might not be XP drivers available for your other hardware installed.
It sounds like it’s because the drive is SATA, as you guessed. I’ve been able to get around this issue by going into the BIOS and changing the SATA controller mode to "IDE" or "Native IDE" so that Windows detects it as an IDE controller, instead of a SCSI controller for which it has no drivers.
If the computer doesn’t have a floppy drive, then downloading the drivers won’t do you any good, I’m afraid, unless you know how to use nlite to slipstream the drivers into a CD to use to install Windows. I recommend poking around in the BIOS first; don’t change anything unless it’s something to do with the SATA controller.
