I could pay to Norton for software to do this, but it seems as though I could just do this myself very easily with some direction. Best answer gets chosen based on ease/success of the answer.
I guess I should note that I already have killer antivirus/firewall/protective software. What I’m looking for is a way to clean out my temporary files and defragment the thing since I’m a you tube junkie.

http://www.tune-up.com Just install and fire it up it basically does it by itself and has a thirty day free trial.
The best advice? Do not start clicking on every link someone suggests on here, That is your best move. These people might not be that familiar with how to fix computers or tune them up. Most tuning of a pc, tv, stereo, even an automobile can be done by yourself. Why take advice that isn’t proven. Do not click links first of all. Thanks for listening, but I AM sorry. Please learn that deframent and delete tempory files are 2 completly different computing proceedures that help. On many computers there is a control panel. On there the is a place called Performance and Maintenence. Click on there, and you usually get to chose "free up space or your hard disk" (which is deleating files…warning, the first line that says "program files" should NOT be deleated. These are usually needed for your programs to run properly) The bottom line should say something like…"Rearrange items on your hard disk to make programs run faster" enquote. There is a right way to do both. Don’t delete many things, and don’t use a web site or software to delete stuff for you. Sometimes all they want to help you with is spending your money.(I read someone say it takes an hour to defrag thier computer. Mine takes like 30 seconds to maybe 4 minutes tops. However, don’t forget things like music audio, video, game software, photography stuff, even anti-spy, anti virus, and a lot of stuff, will slow down defragment times too. If you defrag daily like I suggest, it should only take a minute or 2. If you save too much stuff or download a lot, especially media or video, hey, your computer will slow way down to a snail’s pace!)
click start, click programs, click accessories, click system tools then select disc clean up. After that repeat the same steps except select discdefragmenter at system tools instead of disc clean up.
If pc still slow you may need more ram.
You can use the Windows disk defragmenter go my computer right click on the main drive c:\ then click tools\ defragment you can go to IE click on Internet options ans select the delete temporary files options. In Netscape or Firefox its called a cache.
Hello, k go to start – all programs- accesories- system tools, then you will see system defragmentation click on that, then click on analyze it will tell you if you need to defragment your hard drive, if it tell you you need to then click defragment hard drive. I will take around 1 hour depending on your hard drive size. The After your done with that go to the same system tools click on disk clean up, it will start calculating the unwanted files on your computer, after its done calculating it will tell you the size that could be removed. just press delete and your done!
Just go to "My Computer" and right click on the hard drive…should be options for disk clean up and defragmentation.
All of these are ones that I personally use and all are free. After you install any of them, make sure you update them to get the full affect.

Spybot – Search & Destroy detects and removes spyware, a relatively new kind of threat not yet covered by common anti-virus applications. Spyware silently tracks your surfing behaviour to create a marketing profile for you that is transmitted without your knowledge to the compilers and sold to advertising companies. If you see new toolbars in your Internet Explorer that you haven’t intentionally installed, if your browser crashes inexplicably, or if your home page has been "hijacked" (or changed without your knowledge), your computer is most probably infected with spyware. Even if you don’t see the symptoms, your computer may be infected, because more and more spyware is emerging. Spybot-S&D is free, so there’s no harm giving it a try to see if something has invaded your computer.

How to Clean up the files.
For Windows XP
For best results reboot your computer before performing this procedure.
Begin by first clicking on your Start Button.
Then click on Search, then click on All Files and Folders.
In the Search Companion window on the left, click on the All Files and Folders option.
Ensure that the Look in: box is pointing to you C: Drive and not just a single directory.
In the All or part of the file name: box, type in *.TMP
That’s the Star symbol – with a Period – followed by the TMP extension.
Then click on the Search button located in the lower left corner of the screen.
Your computer will do a search for all files that end with the .TMP file extension.
They will be listed in the right side area of the screen with their name and Folder location.
Then click on the word Edit, which is contained, in your top tool bar area.
This will pull down a menu for you to now click on Select All.
All these .TMP files on you hard drive will become highlighted.

As far as defragging your hard drive there are three options. One is to find Diskeeper Lite which is just an on-demand defragging utility which does nothing to prevent fragmenatation. The other is to actually buy the Professional version of Diskeeper 2007 which is between $30 and $70 depending on where and who you buy it from. Though I think the last option is best…
Iobit Smartdefrag, http://www.iobit.com/SmartDefrag/index.html it defrags and prevents fragmentation just make sure you set it to run at boot and it will actively keep your system in tip top shape.
I just found another defrag utility you might want to try, http://freewaregenius.com/2006/11/11/auslogics-disk-defrag/ because I can’t actually confirm if SmartDefrag is working correctly in Vista though that may not apply to XP.
