BSOD: Copied over /repair/software and now can't login!?
My work computer recently stopped working. When I boot it up, it gives me blue screen with hive message can't find system32\config\system. I went into recovery console but it wanted admin password which I don't have and corporate won't give me. I don't want to send it in and wait to get it back, so I hooked up hdd to a desktop and copied c:\windows\repair\software to c:\windows\system32\config\sof… Put hdd back into laptop and booted up and it boots into windows! However, it doesn't recognize my username/password anymore. What can I do to fix this?
Thanks, but this is not a desktop it is a laptop. It is not the BIOS PW.
I have permission to fix my own computer. I am in IT at my local branch, but happen to work for a huge corporation who doesn't want to give me the ADMIN PW for obvious reasons.

I am trying to repair it on my own as mailing it in will take several weeks for a repair. Again, I do have permission to repair it on my own.

Thanks for the responses.

restore registry?

I downloaded a program tat said it could help me clean my regisrty because my computer had crashed. I accidentally deleted important files like access to any .exe file or something like that. Now I cant even open the My COmputer Icon or anything else. I made my problem even worse, Can someone tell me what to do?
How do I access the restore? I got this pc of )@#% from my father in law and he got it from his company, i dont have any software or backup disks, so what can I do?

Tried a few supposed “free” ones, only to find that when errors were detected, had to purchase product to actually clean up the registry. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

the current OS on this computer is me and I have absolutely nothing on this computer that i need to back up and save.
what is the least complicated and inexpensive way to do a clean install of xp onto this computer?
I would like to run this computer on a network with my other computer that currently uses xp.
from what the xp disk says, I can't boot to the cd because it has a license restriction to the original computer. I had to order the recovery disks cause initially it was installed into the hard drive only.

My computer has been running very slowly lately. I have deleted many photos and videos but it still continues to run slowly. Is there anything I can do to get it faster or how to clean up the computer and get unwanted programs on my computer?
