Hi all, I keep getting a Windows installer pop up window saying ‘preparing to install…’ and nothing more each time I boot into Vista. It only pops up then. I’m pretty confident it has to do with a corrupted installation of Symantec NIS, since I was unable to install it automatically and thus had to do it manually (deleting files, cleaning registry…)

I’ve tried disable the Windows Installer service but to no avail. I’ve also tried Microsoft Windows Install Clean Up tool, but the offending installation doesn’t show there (I guess it’s due to having removed it by hand).

Any help will be highly appreciated.
Thanks!
Oh sorry I meant I was unable to *uninstall* Symantec NIS automatically, that’s why I deleted it manually. I’ve done the registry cleanups with CCleaner btw.

I had installed Business Pro and then removed it using the Add/Remove Programs — I also cleaned out the registry. But the Windown Installer pop-up keeps coming back when I visit certain websites that have a lot of pop-ups. It asks for Windows Installer and the original disk — I do not have this. I use Windows XP Home Edition and clean my laptop using Ad-Aware and another registry cleaner — this is of no avail. Any help would be greatly appreciated. It’s really annoying and the pop-up only goes away after I hit cancel at least three times!

I recently acquired my brother’s old laptop as he bought a new one, he has a lot of his old files & stuff on here, but doesn’t have the start-up disks. I could wipe out the hard drive but then I’d be stuck using Vista and if I’m as computer illiterate with Vista as I am with XP, then that’s a whole other can of worms.

Anyway, I’ve actually got two questions this time around.

1.) He has two folders marked as My Backup w/ the created date following them. I’ve tried to delete these files completely but to no avail. There is nothing in them that he needs that he doesn’t already have, so any advice on how to get rid of them in their entirety?

2.) What is this file: regedit cache.reg ?
Answer #1: The link you gave, the downloaded file doesn’t work.

Answer #2: I’ve already ran CCleaner.

I just need to know how to get rid of the backup folders & if it is safe to delete the regedit file.

registry,cleaners?

need some feed back on registry cleaners ,have tried some all they seem to do is screw my computer up.should I stay away from them,I try to follow all of ther guidelines to no avail, and I am not a computer super tech, nor do I know anyone who is.

I keep getting these "offers" in the form of pop ups to scan my computer for adware, malware and registry cleaners too. I have ran my Web root spyware program as well as my avast anti virus to no avail. These "offers" seem to be slowing the internet substantially on my one computer. Though the rest of that computer seems to working fine. How do I get rid of these popups. I have set my internet security and privacy at high levels. Nothing seems to work. Any ideas? Programs I can download to stop this. Please help
