Hardware diagnostic tool?

I’m going to upgrade my computer and get a new video card and need to first know what card I currently have.

I could just open up my computer and figure it out for myself but I’m frankly too lazy to do that.

Is there any kind of free software that tells you all of the hardware that your computer has in it currently? Maybe even lists possible upgrades.

I was trying out McCafee Anti-Virus software, but saw BT Yahoo free software by Computer Associates, I removed the McCafee Virus software and tried to load your CA software but nothing happens! (The anti spy works & Mail Protection) I have clean my registry with PC tools and restarted my PC a number of times I have downloaded the Software form the site Numerous times But the soft ware still says "Install now" I would be most pleased to here what I am doing wrong? Just to inform you I have worked with computers for over twenty years. Therefore, I’m not a novice; you don’t have to be gentle with me. I have Zone alarms firewall install and am running XP pro (Pack 2)

I need to clean-up my hard drive and am looking for a pc download that will do that, but there doesn’t appear to be any free software available beyond the diagnostic stage.

in my experience in computing i found that there are viruses (in this case malware) that make your system show a fake windos error prompt (usually telling you that there is spyware or viruses in the computer although there isn't) and that you need to download the offered software (in which i find suspicous windows doesn't just offer free software through an error prompt for free) and i also found out that if you try to click don't install is triggers virus installation and if you click the X in the corner it will also trigger a virus installation

it downloads rogue software that automatically installs itself into your comuter (it is malware that disquises itself as a spyware protection program, virus protection program, or a registry cleaner) and acts as it is scanning your system and shows fake threats and says that if you want to get rid of them you have to buy there product.

how do you cancell these you whenever you encounter a promt that seems like it will download one
