My laptop is running so slow and freezes up all the time. I’ve purchased a malware scan & clean-up and a registry scan & clean-up and neither have worked. I’ve transferred all pictures, music, etc. to my external hard drive and that didn’t help. I’ve tried restoring, no luck. I have windows vista and it won’t let me reformat. Help!! Any advice would be great!

So every time I try to cut on my laptop it starts but this Start Up repair thing keeps popping up instead of going to my log in screen. It always ask would i like for windows to attempt repairs and I always click yes but it never gets repaired. After going through the same thing 3 or more times it goes to another screen that states "start up repair cannot repair the computer automatically" so I always choose to send the information about the problem. When I come off that screen i choose to always advance view advanced options for system recovery and support. I fill out all the info that they request (country, screen name, & password) and they give me the choices of: start up repair (which i automatically do and it gets me nowhere), system restore (which i do from this point but once i shut down my lap top then use it, shut it down when i’m done, and then cut it back on I have to go through the whole start up repair process over again, windows complete PC restore (idk what a backup image is), windows memory diagnostic tool (did it yesterday and it said there was nothing wrong with my memory), command prompt, and dell factory image restore (if i do this will it erase all my documents and things like music that i have already saved to my computer? seeing that it restores my system software to factory condition)

Please help!!! Idk what I did so hopefully one of you will help me!

Will Geek Squad or any other computer repair personnel fix this problem for me?
So I’ve had my zune for some months now
But in order to download the software you need
Windows update to update itself
But I can’t do windows update because it has an error
So I was trying to fix it and I uninstalled some KB number which I do not know, which now make my computer not play music
so I have 1 problem that spreaded

1.)Can’t download zune software
2.)Windows update won’t update because of a error
3.)Music won’t play on my computer because I uninstalled a KB number I don’t remember (example KB4424242 Video intensifier)
4.) Music won’t play when I go to youtube or any other site to listen to audio.

Please help me!!!!!!!!!

Now I’m no rookie, but I’m no guru either, but this problem will stomp even pc veterans. What is wrong: computer goes straight into BSOD before loading windows. What caused it: I went to "start" >> "run" >> "msconfig" then "safeboot" now it goes straight to the BSOD and its says video driver failed to initialize. What’s funny is that I can run other software programs just fine (like windows repair/recovery software) and the video is just fine. I’ve even ran Ubuntu over it just to see if the video works and it does. But this is the kicker, Dell wont even help because the laptops’s out of warranty as of two years ago, I know I can do a fresh install, but I’m trying to save all my pics, music, movies etc…So my question is this: how do you return it to normal mode if you can’t boot windows, what boot software can I obtain to troubleshoot/repair from outside windows, or how to get into Windows period, I can handle it from there, just gotta get in.

P.S. BSOD=blue screen of death (if you didn’t know that then maybe this question isn’t for you to try and answer…but go for it anyhow 😉
Thanx Kobra, but I know the ram is good. Steve, I thought of fixmbr, but I was afraid of the warning it gives me about partitions may not being accessable later. However i did mention the error message on bsod(video driver failed to initialize.) DJ maxx I recall seeing that option before, but neve had a chance to use it. I have a "Super XP" disk so I’m pretty sure I can copy, but if I use Steve’s method and it does render my partitions useless, can I still install windows as you’ve indicated to retrieve my data, then format and install once I’m finished? (and Steve when I start to run fixmbr, it does say: "This computer appears to have a non-standard or invalid mbr" so you may be onto something. I’m just being so cautions, because this isnt my computer, I’m fixing it for a friend, otherwise I’d just play around with everything.
