my computer is running ok it seems except for the fact i cant defrag just now because my c drive is saying its full and theres not enough space to use the defrag program , so now im having a hard time wondering what files i should delete on my c drive.

i keep using c cleaner to clean the registry but ive never backed anything up, my computer continues to operate ok, could i have done anything harmful to the computer ? would i know if i had ?

alsoo a user said this in my last question in response to not being able to defrag my c drive :

” There is a thing where you can buy in stores and you plug it into your computer and stor everything on it. Then delete the things on your computer you can take it where ever you go and have your work ”

has anyone heard of a gadget like hes describing ?

my operating system is windows xp btw, i cant afford vista right now.

I am having problems with Windows XP SP3. Operating System restarts automatically without pressing restart or Automatic Updates. Norton Security Scan-NO VIRUS (SAFE) Lavasoft Adware-Safe, Registry Cleaner-Clean.
What could be the problem and how to solve?

I cannot start Windows on my PC! I get an error message reading:

"Windows cannot start because "C:\WINDOWS\System32\config." is corrupted or missing. Insert original Setup CD-Rom and press ‘r’ at setup to begin repair."

I have looked at the software that I recieved when I got my computer (it was given to me by my neighbor two years ago), and I cannot find the original Setup CD-ROM, and I can’t get the others to run at all. I have gone to dell’s support website on another computer and tried their suggestions, which did not work. I tried the command-line string, but I can’t input anything. I’ve tried looking on here for solutions, and attempted what I found, but nothing’s worked so far.

Please help, it was working perfectly fine on Thursday evening, but on Friday, this problem began. I do not know what is causing it. To be able to get the best help, here are the details of my operating system:

Manufacturer: Dell
Edition: Windows Media Center Edition
Software Package: Microsoft Office Windows XP 2000
Year Manufactured (guesstimate): 2001
Virus/Malware/Spyware Protection Software: Avast!, Super AntiSpyware, Spybot: Search & Destroy, Ad-Aware.

I need to resolve this quickly, please. Any suggestions you may have will be tried, and are *very* welcome! Thank you very much to anyone who can help me!

I mean strip it down so you have just the operating system on it.

FROM A WEBSITE ON SFC: To protect your computer from old system files, Microsoft created a special service that is built into the operating system. This service monitors your system files, and if one is replaced or deleted, ICS will automatically restore the system file. SFC works in conjunction with a utility called Windows File Protection that keeps the system file cache: (%Systemroot%\System32\Dllcache) uppdated with the newest Microsoft Approved files as they are installed on your system. I prefer to use the system backup for the ability to roll back to a former configuration however. To manually invoke the system file checker, be sure you have administrative access then go to the command prompt and type: sfc /scannow The system will immediately begin to check all the current system files and restore the cached approved copies. You may be asked to insert the Windows CD as well during the restore. IS THERE ANY SOFTWARE AVAILABLE TO DOWNLOAD SO THAT I DONT’T HAVE TO USE THE CD?
