I recently deleted the permissions to my Windows XP registry, all of them except for the system one, I know it was a stupid mistake but I was following a guide to something and I went wrong there. My PC will now not allow me to do anything on it, I am on another computer right now using the Ubuntu operating system.. please help, and don’t flame.

I have a dell inspiron 2200 that I purchased in the summer of 2005. It still used windows xp. about a week ago, I tried to restart my computer and it simply wouldn’t boot. after further exploration, i noticed that it does begin to load. it goes through a few sequences then gets to the black screen where there is a large window’s icon and the little moving status bar underneath for about 20 seconds, then simply goes black with the cursor still movable and on the screen. I’ve let it sit for about thirty mins in this screen with no progress.

I’ve done thorough diagnostics in the boot menu by pressing f12 at the beginning of the startup process hoping to find a problem. nothing resulted.

I also don’t believe my laptop came with a boot disc. Looking through some of the original paperwork that came with it, i found something that says my computer does not require an operating system cd or drivers cds. instead, it tells me to reinstall software by using system restore… i’d love to do this if my comp would actually boot!

somebody please help.

thanks

It’s an older desktop( Dell ) with Window’s 98 plus. I’ve deleted files, cookies. and history, but it runs slow and locks up a lot. Is there software to erase all data down to the operating system so as to start all over? Spyware Dr. says there is no virus. What would be a reasonable price to have it done? I’ve been told 0 by an IT.

I can not get ride of rootkit pop up ,I know it is sort of virus or spyware
but According to Norton ,and Microsoft I have to scan , It will not let my Norton to scan, also tried some of those Malware or Registry cleaning programs either they do not work or they are not effective ,any IDEA ??please help

I reformatted my computer like a year ago, and i want to reformatted again and i forgot how u do it. I’ve currently reformatted my computer using the operating system CD, when i did that, i found a lot of things missing, like the sound. I’ve look through all my CDs and found Drivers and Utilities Cd that says reinstalling Device Driver and using diagnostics, utilities and online documentation and another one that also says Drivers and Utilities but it said reinstalling conexant 56K Data/Fax Modem Software for Microsoft Window. Do I insert one of them when i reformat my computer?
