Computer guru help needed!!?

Just bought a new Gateway desktop and for some reason …anytime we click on an application, no matter what it is, the computer just freezes up, requiring a hard reboot (turning off the computer at the powerstrip). It won’t let us do anything. We use the computer primarily for surfing the internet. Should I run the antivirus software and see if that cures the problem before taking the tower back to Best Buy to have them run a diagnostic or do you think that’s a bad idea? Thanks.

running windows xp and when I get to a web site requiring active x I get into an install adobe flash cycle. Reboot and still wont launch the video. Found some error messages and it mentioned registry may be at falut or something like that. Used a program called Registry Clean Fix, downloaded from web, and tried the install adobe active x flash player again. No avail. Got an idea?

My laptop stays in "SAFE MODE", posting an error message similar to: "Drivers32 file missing or corrupt".

While reading a website, I recieved a strange message that " files are being dumped to documents folder." After recieving the message, I noticed that it became progressively harder for the WINDOWS screen to load. Every time I turned on my laptop, the black and white "safe mode" screen would pop up….then countdown from about 30 seconds…..then pop up again, like a revolving door. No matter what I tried, the screen would just keep repeating itself — without so much as even letting me see the password screen. Also, the power supply to the laptop became very erratic.

My question: Is it better to use the original software that came with my laptop and reboot to solve the problem? Or, is there some software that will repair my drivers and get my computer running again–preferably without rebooting?

WinXP, SP2 (had SP3, but downgraded due to vulnerability problems).

System Restore (need to be in "normal mode") & Last Known Configuration don’t help.

Chkdsk fails on reboot and scandisk does not run in safe mode

BIOS settings have been reset to default

I had Symantec Anti-virus w/Live Update, but that has not been performing well lately and I deleted it as Live Update was not actually Live Updating it. Any anti-virus software I dl, it refuses for some odd reason. What I do have installed is Malware Bytes & Wise Registry Cleaner 4.

I have seen most tech forums on the Web and none of them have been providing me a right answer, so I will take suggestions from here. Thanks to those that help me, I truly appreciate it. 🙂

I did a registry scan and now after reboot it says some files are missing. SY Restore never worked and I have no back up. Can you repair with XP disc or is it FORMAT?
