Is there anyway to wipe my computer clean and start from scratch. I am about to throw my computer out the window, plz help.

I recently built a new computer from scratch with high end components and installed Windows Vista 64-bit.
I was having major issues with the system freezing permanently and randomly during use.
I would run windows memory diagnostic software and it did not find any hardware errors.

I had a 4 gig dual channel memory kit installed in the first 2 dimm slots on my motherboard.
I tried changing the memory to the last two dimm slots and the computer then seemed to work for a while but ultimately started freezing again.
Windows would also occasionally crash fatally to a blue error screen.

I then switched the memory to the 1st and 3rd dimm slots(both blue colored slots) and now Windows hasn’t froze or crashed in days.

Can anyone tell me why this last solution might have worked?
I have an Asus Maximus Extreme motherboard:

And 4g of OCZ Platinum Enhanced DDR3 memory

Thanks

What it is,is that im looking to clean my pc out and give my pc a new clean install of its operating system, but ive not done it before. Were can i get step by step guide to do it from scratch successfully please?(AND I MEAN STEP BY STEP.)Im currently on XP.

I made a full system backup the other day and want to know if I could restore the whole thing if the fresh reinstall I’m planning doesn’t work out and I want to go back to how it was.

Thanks!
Thanks P. I had also made a registry export but had forgotten that regedit won’t handle some entry types that regedt32 will.

I’ll export the whole thing and also each user’s settings separately.

I’m A+ certified from way back – started doing support in the DOS/Win3.0 days – but I’ve never had occasion to restore or reinstall a Windows system from scratch. I’ve always been able to keep them running clean long enough to make a new low-end system the better option. Been out of the game as a pro for a few years too.

Thanks again!
I’m going to keep this Q open in case anyone else has some tips too.
