How to speed up Windows XP:
1. NTFS is the standard file system which is especially designed for Windows NT, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008, Windows Vista, and Windows 7. Please make sure that Windows XP is utilizing the NTFS file system. Follow the steps to check:
First, runs My Computer, right-click on the C: Drive, then go to Properties. Next, examine the File System type; if it says FAT32, and then back-up any important data. Next, click Start, click Run, type in CMD, and then select OK. At the prompt, type in CONVERT C: /FS: NTFS and press Enter. NTFS has several improvements over FAT and HPFS (High Performance File System) such as improved support for metadata and the use of advanced data structures to improve performance, reliability, and disk space utilization, plus additional extensions such as security access control lists (ACL) and file system journaling.
2. Disable Indexing Services
Indexing Service is an operating system level service which is used for Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008, Windows Vista, and Windows 7 that can extract both text and property information from files on the local host and on remote, networked hosts to facilitate efficient and rapid searching. If you don’t search your computer often, or even if you do search often, this system service is completely unnecessary. To disable do the following:
• Firstly, go to Start
• And then, click Settings
• Go to Control Panel
• Double-click on Add/Remove Programs
• Select the Add/Remove Window Components
• Uncheck the Indexing services
• Select Next
Hi, you can speed up your computer by the following ways:
1.run a antivirus software to scan your computer fully.
virus usually impacts the speed of computer.
If there is no virus, see the possible reasons that make computers slow down and solutions.
2.Registry is the centre database of your computer operating system which contains information and settings for hardware, operating system software, most non-operating system software, and per-user settings. You must load the registry whenever you launch any programs on your computer. If the registry is too fat or with some errors, computer’s performance will seriously be impacted. So, you need to clean up registry and fix its errors.
If you are not familiar with registry, don’t remove files away from it and clean up it easily for you may delete important things that will make your computer in trouble. You’d better choose to use a professional registry cleaner, personally,I like wondershare registry optimizer,it’s safe to operating system.
3.There must be too many programs start up automatically when you start your computer.Run a registry optimizer or cleaner to stop those unnecessary start-up programs.
4.Have you ever clean up your computer since you bought it? If the answer is never, I am sure that there are lots of junk files on it. Junk files is also one of reasons that will cause computer slowing down. You’d better delete them regularly.
2,3,4 can be realized by a registry optimizer.
5.If a registry optimizer doesn’t work, add RAM or do a fresh reinstall of windows. Before you do a reinstall, please remember to back up.However, you should know that frequent reinstall is harm to hard disk.
6.Put programs on other drivers ,not C driver, because commonly C is for operating system. And defrag hard disks every 2 months.
Good luck.
The Windows Registry is the master control center for your operating system and applications it runs. Corruption or overload registry issues can cause all sorts of pc performance problems, including poor application startup times, slow Windows start-up, extremely slow shut down, slow internet surfing, inability to resume from computer sleep and more.Cleaning, compacting, and optimizing your Windows registry can go a long way to dramatically speeding up your computer’s performance, start-up and shutdown speed.
Recommended: Run a Registry Scan http://make-computer-run-smoothly.com Now to Detect Errors and Improve your PC’s speed instantly!
First of all remove all the big files from your desktop. If your hard disk is full get some external usb hard disk and move all your movies and pictures there. Then update you antivirus and antispyware and run a full scan. After that a defragmentation is a good idea. If the problems still persist then you should use a decent registry cleaner. If you are not sure which one to use maybe you could do what I did.
Visit the http://thebestofregistrycleaners.com and get your free scan.
They should be able to help you. I would advice you not to temper with your registry.
go start/accesories/system tools/ disk defragmenter. if youve never done that then run this as your harddisk is probably a battle site.
also when you start up your computer lots of little program probably appear at the bottom right of your taskbar, right click and exit the ones you dont want.
also run a virus scan just to be sure.
if theirs more computers connected to one wifi router it splits the speed between all of them.
Use ccleaner
Its a great way to speed up your computer by deleting unwanted files registration keys, cookies etc.
It certainly fastened my pc. 🙂
Disable some start up items, but be careful not to disable the required ones, optimize your browser and clear temp and prefetch. You will definitely notice the difference.
