About blank comes up on my screen when I try to bring up Internet Explorer. A blank screen appears. How can I get my computer to work without that problem?

about:blank is a default message that IE interprets as to show a blank window. You cannot get your computer to work without it but you can sure change it. Goto Tools>Internet Options. In the Group Home page you can select the current page you are viewing to show up whenever you open a browser window / Select use default to show up the default webpage for your browser {dependant on the vendor.}

go to internet options, change the home page. Then go to the tabs button and look for the one that says open home page with new tab. Internet Exolorer has it and I am not sure about mozilla.
