I'm currently using avg but I don't think it gets rid of the virus I think it just stores it. And I think in february they are starting to charge for it. Does anyone know another virus protection program I can download?
I don't want AVG because it doesn't get rid of the virus it just stores it…and adaware is a spysweeper program. I want virus protection

install in SAFE mode with networking ( hit F-8 at boot time ), run them all in SAFE mode

and if you have a wireless router follow these tips,
1. Use WPA encryption (WPA-PSK) it's less crackable then WEP.
2. Make a passphrase that is upper & lower case and has some numbers thrown in there as well, again harder to crack.
some like mAkE1t5eCurE0rel53 and as long as possible.
3. Use MAC access control so only you or authorized PC's can connect (even if you do have encryption turned on)
4. Turn off DHCP use static addresses.
5. Turn off SSID (and change it) unless your card really needs it (some do)
6. Change username/password of access unit front end
7. Ensure you have the usual firewall enabled on your PC.
8. Paranoia rules, turn WLAN off if your not using it 🙂

you can set to delete when it finds rather than quarantine
you also should run the scan in safe mode with restore turned off
AVG does indeed store (or quarrantine) the virus, but you can delete it from the quarrantine.
As far as I am concerned, AVG is the best free antivirus program available.

Which avg version do you have? They have a new version 7.5 . I know they won't have version 7.1 after January. I think your referring to 7.1. Upgrade to 7.5

I'm using Win98 and the following software programs (with Publisher's Descriptions) are the ones I use and recommend, but you should go to download.com and read the user reviews before making any decisions. I run 'Bazooka' first and often (Bazooka only detects, it does not fix), it's super quick, but it doesn't detect everything. There is no program that will detect all of the problems and all of the programs together will not fix all of the problems, but these will get most of them. I run 'Ad-Aware' once a week and 'AVG'/'Spybot' once a month. My machine runs like a singer with this set and they use very little of my computer resources .
