Including programs, a lot of my stuff I don’t have disc’s for anymore, or bought and downloaded online and will not be able to reinstall, is there a program, or special way to copy things I choose onto my external drive so that I can just put the programs back on the C drive?

depending on the program more then likely not
some will have an install folder or a setup.exe saved in the programs folder that can be used
other will just run from the exe with out technically being installed
other you could possible download a demo and then copy the original contents of the app folder over to the demo folder always ALWAYS back up software you download and like especially if you bought it you may be able to download it again it you still have the sale email you might be able to log onto the site again and get it
other then apps i usually make a folder on my desktop called back up or something and spend a couple of days moving stuff to it because sure enough it will be like 2 weeks after the install and i’ll be like didn’t i have this… well drat lol
First of all you don’t need to store all your important stuff in that drive where the Operating System (Windows XP) is installed.
I recommend you to always store your important data in any other drive except the drive in which Operating System is been installed
For Example : if your Windows XP is installed on C Drive you can store your data in other Drives.
So you can reinstall fresh copy of Windows XP on your C Drive.
And as your Data is in other Drive so it wont get affected.
If in case all your Drives are Full then u can backup all you important data in an external drive like USB Portable Hard Disk
Hi,
Here’s a great resource for backing up your computer: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/beta-pc-backup.aspx.
Hope this helps.
