When I boot up my Windows XP computer, it says "power saving mode enabled this monitor will shut down" and it does! I’ve tried switching monitors and that did not help. Also, gave it a thorough cleaning, checked all the connections, and tried a new power source (different outlet). The computer is only 3 years old and the Power Saving mode is disabled. Anyone have any idea what this could be?

Please accept my apologies. I’m not an expert so these are just some random thoughts. XP lets you configure power settings for your computer several ways. From telling XP if you’re using a desktop or a laptop to what you want the computer to do if you close the lid on a laptop.
If you click start > control panel > double click power options you’ll see the Power Options Properties dialog box. Make sure Power schemes is set for either Portable/Laptop or Home/Office Desk, as appropriate for your system. Make sure the setting to Turn off monitor is set for something more than 1 minute. On the Hibernate tab I’d suggest unchecking the Enable hiberate option.
If you still have problems the only other thing I can think of is something happened to damage or corrupt a system file or driver. If you have your XP install CD you could run a system file check. Click start > run > type in "sfc /scannow" > OK (no quotes and notice the space between sfc and /scannow.) If any damaged or missing system files are located, you’ll be prompted to insert the install disk. Files will then be repaired or replaced as needed. The scan could take over an hour depending on what it finds.
If none of this helps there might be a physical problem between the computer and the monitor. You could try running a free diagnostic check with this utility from Belarc Advisor. Easy to download, easy to run, easy to uninstall if you don’t feel like keeping it on your computer.

I’ve run out of ideas. Again, I’m sorry I couldn’t offer something more specific.
