I thought I’d solved the problem but it turned out I hadn’t. I got a couple of trojan viruses on my computer the other day, even with NOD32 and Malwarebytes’ AntiMalware, Ad-aware, and Spybot Search and Destroy, which I know are all very good. I scanned with Malwarebytes, and it found two trojans. Here’s the log:

I deleted the two trojans, so everything was working again (I wasn’t being redirected to other sites on the internet anymore). However, this morning, the same problem has come back. I’m assuming that there is a rootkit installed somewhere, but nothing can find it. I’ve also scanned with VundoFix and RogueRemover, which didn’t find anything either. I scanned with SmitFraudFix, and the log after that came up with a HUGE list of random websites, and then this (sorry for the long question):

Run from C:\Documents and Settings\User\Desktop\SmitfraudFix
OS: Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600] – Windows_NT
The filesystem type is
Fix run in normal mode

I’ve tried deleting what SmitFraudFix has found, but it doesn’t seem to work. If I do the scan again on SFF straight afterwards, it finds the same things, but doesn’t delete them.

So, what else is there to do? Haven’t I tried everything? Please don’t recommend programs like AVG, Norton, McAffee and Avast because they are not as good as the ones I am using, and are unlikely to find the rootkit if they better antiviruses can’t.

Thanks!

A family member has a failing computer running XP Pro whereas I have a spare drive on my own computer with an unused XP Pro installation already set up. My idea is to back up all his files/folders etc using the Back Up facility within Windows Live OneCare and then set him up on my spare drive. All XP installations in this house have passed Microsoft validation however, he does not have an installation CD but I can get his Product Key. I have two questions. What is the best method of preparing a computer for a fresh installation of XP Pro (is formatting the HDD too extreme)? Secondly, if I use my installation CD to re-install XP Pro on his computer but when the time comes to enter a Product Key, I enter HIS Product Key rather than my own, can that work? Are Product Keys only specific to the program/application being installed or are they specific to the individual installation CD being used?

My computer is taking longer to load when I simply open my web browser.

I have cleaned my cookies and history, but it still takes a long time to load.

I think I have too much junk accumulated over the years that needs to be cleaned out but I don’t know how…

I tried to download a short clip the other day but I don’t know where my computer saved the file. The program stated that I downloaded it six times, but I have no idea where all those downloads went and I have no idea what they are called.

Like I said, there must be a bunch of junk on my PC that needs to be cleaned up. I looked at some files and folders, but there are hundreds with crazy, illegible names that have no logical meaning to me at all. How is a regular person who doesn’t have a degree in computer programming supposed to be able to maintain their computer??

Okay I understand that because I have defragmented my computer
Windows XP…that I may not get rid of things that need to be removed
Temp folders etc..Do I need these folders? I don’t want to remove anything I have no disk for this computer and am trying to clean up all the crap (porns)etc that have been put on this system any suggestions….PLZ don’t make me tear it up !!!

my computer is almost a year old old and now its starting to slow down especially the internet how can i clean up the hard drive without deleting files and folders..i dont really have any programs i dont need so i dont know what to do help please i hate wen computers start to slow down i dont have paticnece with them
