I use a laptop and a wireless router connected to the modem hubby uses for his desktop. This morning I downloaded a registry cleaner program. He says since I did that, his computer keeps going to the internet interrupting what he’s doing. The program is on MY hard drive. I don’t think it should affect his computer. Comments?

windows xp clean install?

i recentaly installed windows xp pro overtop of xp home. and even though i had to setup all new user accounts it kep all of my old crap on the hard drive. is there an easy way to get rid of all my old stuff without formating

Hi, TLDR below.

Hard drive took a little spill off the desk the other day. I plugged it in, a few beep noises came FROM the HD, not the computer, and now it isn’t loading up when I try going into it. I hear the disc(s) inside running smoothly and there isn’t any abnormal sounds (other than the beeping when I first plugged it in).

Every once in awhile, it will boot up very, very slowly. Other times, it will show the make shift directories I made inside the Terabyte but nothing inside them. And as of now, it will say it is unable to find or load up the HD.

So what sort of problems am I looking at here? Is there any way I can back up some of the criteria on the HD? Is there a type of diagnostic software I can use, buy, download to scan for problem and solutions?

It is under warranty, but I would hate for me to ship it out and lose all my files without at least doing my best to fix it myself. I plan on reformatting it if I can get an unfortunate solid answer of not being able to salvage my stuff. If that doesn’t work, then I suppose I’ll just send it in.

TLDR version: HD is beeping, discs sounds like they’re running fine. HD not booting up. Has weird nature to it, sometimes it loads (very slowly) sometimes directory doesn’t exist. Need help

I saw that there was spy ware someone can use to monitor your emails, chat, and deleted files. I would like to keep my personal life private without someone ever being able to scan my computer and find private emails, chat or deleted files. If I could find some software to detect if some has installed such software on my computer that would be great, free if possible. I also would like to know the best software to use to clean your computer of all items for safety.
I think I may have not been clear to most. I would like to make sure that no person could gain access to my hard drive and see where I have been or find deleted files. I know that when you delete files they are still on your computer. I would like to know how to make sure they are really gone, and there is no path left to find them or fine any real history. My computer has anti virus protection and it is running greatly. I was stunned to find out how simple it is for criminals, your spouse, boss, employees or hackers to install key logger type spy programs on your computer and watch your every move. Spy software is so easy to install and use, it can turn any eight year old into a seasoned hacker! They have even come out with "hybrid spy software" which disguises itself as an E-Greeting card! The moment you open it you’re infected! These are the things I worry about.

A program known as "Win Fixer" recently installed itself to my computer. Iv dealt with this program before, on another computer, its spywear that hides itself and creates more and more popups that appear the moment i start up an internet explorer or Fire fox copy. Iv deleted anything named "Win fix" that the search function on windows explorer found, but the popups continue dispite my virus scanner saying I have no spywear on the system. Its gotten even worse now. If i open any internet program windows says it has to close windows explorer! Then my startbar disapears, my computer lags for a few moments, and it appears again, but if i dont close the internet explorer or fire fox it dose it again within a few moments, and dosnt stop untill the internet is closed. I dont want to buy ANOTHER anti spywear program and im not good enough to change anything inside windows itself. Is there any way short of erasing my hard drive to fix this?
