Most of the errors are on Drive C: and they always are windows shortcuts. Why are there so many errors for windows shortcuts on my hard drive? Thanks.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop that’s about 2.5 years old. It has a 60GB hard drive, Mobile AMD Sempron Processor 3500+ 1.79 GHz, 448 MB of RAM.

Last week my laptop just started to lag when I type, like it takes anywhere between 1-5 seconds for the thigs I type to show up on the screen. This includes word processing, chatting, internet explorer, etc. Around the same time I also noticed that my laptop was taking 5-10 minutes to notice when I plugged things into my USB drive like my mouse, digital camera, or webcam. Since then, here are all the things I’ve tried to correct the problem.
-Do a system restore to a time a few weeks ago before the priblem began.
-Ran avast free antivirus software
-Ran antivir free anitvirus software
-Ran tweaknow registry cleaner
-Ran superantispyware free edition
-Ran malwarebytes anti-malware free edition
-Defragmented the hard drive
-Checked the C drive for errors using windows
-Deleted my temporary internet files
-Tried to free up space on my hard drive using the windows tools
-Went through the control panel and uninstalled any software I don’t use
-Went to the task manager and saw what was running and googled anything that looked suspicious, but I’m not very computer savvy so I’m not sure how successful this was.

I’m a medical student and this makes it VERY hard to take notes on PowerPoint during lecture. Everything is functional, but very slow and annoying.

It is a Dell Dimension 2400. It currently only has 128meg RAM (eek!). I just ordered 2 strips of 1 gig RAM so now it will have a total of 2 gigs of RAM when the shipment comes in. That should make a big difference right?
It runs Microsoft XP and it is very very very slow. Start-up of the computer takes about 45 minutes. Seriously.
I really don’t want to format the hard-drive. What else should I do once I get the new RAM installed?

Hi, so I had Windows 98 on my Compaq Presario, and my sister often played a game called Petz 5 with no problems. A while ago though I "upgraded" to Windows XP via a clean install (I wiped my hard drive and installed XP.)

The problem is now the game won’t run. I reinstalled it but it says the resolution has to be higher. And even after installing the driver for my monitor, I still can’t change the resolution. It gives me a weird black error screen message saying the monitor can’t handle it. WHICH doesn’t make sense since I could play the game before…

Okay, so I have a Compaq Presario MV520 monitor and I THINK an SiS 530/620 video adapter, or at least that’s what Windows is telling me.

If someone knows how I can get my resolution working like it was before that would be great! Oh, and if it is a driver issue, please paste the exact URL for them because I’ve been looking into this for months and can’t find the right ones! 😛

Thanks so much in advance,

Lukas

PS If I left out any information that might help, lemme know and I’ll add it ASAP. Thanks! 🙂

I have disassemble my hard drive because it has making funny noises. Is it safe to use alcohol to clean the disks and the head?
