i currently have a problem with my windows vista, and as a suggestion in from the microsoft community informed me that i should try repairing it by using a back up disk of windows, but my windows software was pre-installed , so i dont actually have a back up CD. add the fact that windows home premium doesnt support the whole PC back up function. do i really need to get a new OS? or can i download a clean version of it somewhere, without necessarily pirating one. the suggestion mentioned something like "performing a repair installation or an in-place upgrade"

here’s the link to the suggestion for the repair, if anyone has a better suggestion or a way to help me do the suggestion, by all means reply. hehe..thanks in advance 😀

I downloaded CCleaner today to clean some junk off my computer. I did a registry clean and and saved a backup reg file. I relised afterwards that a large number of my programs stopped working and " Program not found" messages popped up. When i try to restore them with my backup reg file called (cc_20061229_2032) an error pops up saying "The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click OK to terminate the application." I’ve tried the reg file over and over but it still wont work.I am an administrator of the computer but not the owner. Can anyone tell me how to restore my programs. My microsoft offic 2000 Pro was removed and i dont have the CD. Please tell me what i can do!
I’ve tried to do a system restore already and it said that it couldnt be completed because nothing had been changed. And The office icons ( ie. Microsoft Word) are still there and when i click them they ask for the cd.

my operating system in Windows VISTA

I got an full version of xp professional from our University’s MSDAA (Microsoft Developers Academic Alience). I currently have xp home on my machine and I want to upgrade it to pro but I need to keep all my files and programs that are installed. I have many programs to which I no longer have the cd for and therefore I cant afford to lose them. This cd I got from the school is a full cd, not an upgrade cd. I popped it in and try to install it but i get an error message saying it couldnt install it due to a "third party kernell" being installed (the home edition kernell im assuming). So I tried booting from the cd and installing from there, but it didnt give me an option to upgrade. Instead I ended up with 2 versions of xp installed in my machine. Now when the pc starts, it asks me which OS i wanna load (pro or home). Again my question is, is there a way to just upgrade my home edition to pro using a full cd without losing anything? Thank you very much.
