My laptop brand is Toshiba and its hardware and software have damaged. I can’t turn on the laptop and after I sent it for repair, they said that the laptop must be reformated. What makes it worse is that if I choose to do so, all my documents, songs, pictures etc will be deleted.

Do you know any other solutions to repair it without deleting my informations? If my laptop has to be reformated, is it wise to upgrade it to Windows Vista? (I’m currently using Windows XP)

Your answers and opinions are much appreciated. TQ!

What is happening is that the toshiba sign will come up and then the toshiba box but then when it is time for the sign in page to show the screen goes blank with no light. I can log in blindly and I hear everything start up but the screen is blank. Any ideas about what the problem is and how to fix it would be appreciated.

What processes should be running in my task manager with no applications open? What is safe to remove?

Where is malicious software or folders commonly found and how do i remove these items?

I own a Toshiba Laptop if that helps. I got some things on here I would like to keep therefore I cant restore my harddrive. Thanks for your help guys.

TOSHIBA ConfigFree
TOSHIBA Direct Disc Writer
TOSHIBA PC Diagnostic Tool
TOSHIBA Power Saver
TOSHIBA Software Modem
TOSHIBA Speech System Applications
TOSHIBA Speech System SR Engine(U.S.) Version1.0
TOSHIBA Speech System TTS Engine(U.S.) Version1.0
TOSHIBA Touchpad Utility
TOSHIBA Utility
TOSHIBA Zooming Utility

these are all the Toshiba programs on my computer. I know that I use some of them, but most of them say "Used: Rarely" so I’m wondering which ones I can get rid of, and I am especially wondering what TOSHIBA ConfigFree is, since it is the largest (27.66MB)

My first Toshiba Satellite laptop won’t boot. The power light & fan switch on but the screen stays blank. It was my only computer & I didn’t have time to wait for it to be serviced & I thought it might be the motherboard, so I bought another. They don’t make that model anymore, so I bought a low-end new Satellite, but it has Windows Vista. Can I get the XP from the old laptop? If I can do that, can I put the old hard drive in the new comp to retrieve the programs that were installed? Both computers have 2 512m ram, so how do I accomplish getting the info from the old computer? It seems to make sense to me that I can do this, but I’m afraid of frying the new laptop so I need the advice of people who really know what they’re doing. Plus, do you have any idea what might be wrong with the original laptop? Are there any simple ways for me to try to diagnose the problem myself? Is there diagnostic software available so that I could connect the new to the old & use it to diagnose the problem?
