What processes should be running in my task manager with no applications open? What is safe to remove?
Where is malicious software or folders commonly found and how do i remove these items?
I own a Toshiba Laptop if that helps. I got some things on here I would like to keep therefore I cant restore my harddrive. Thanks for your help guys.

in safe mode F8 run malwarebytes anti-malware and SUPERAntispyware,and what they find you
delete it manually. then run ccleaner to clean your pc, and mvregclean, to clean registry.
what mvregclean find you remove because the key is there but not the file ,folder or program.
even you reformat and it finds anything remove dont be afraid.
dont forget when you install this software to update them, and do an update every day
then restore until before you get infected.

1 find the file that supports the spyware. (go to your start menu and go to "search". do a search on the name of suspected spyware.)
2 delete it, it’ll probably have an error message, if it does then go to the task manager ( ctrl, alt, del) and go to processes find the suspected spyware and end process.
3 go back to the file and delete it. it should go away with no problem.
If that doesn’t work then use an antispyware software.

The greatest tool/software I’ve ever used to deal with spyware/viruses/registry errors, is hijackthis. It has got me out of numerous ‘jams’ because of some nasty virus and/or spyware. It also fixes registry errors/invalid keys and such. The skill level required for it’s use is pretty basic. I’ve been working with computers (inside and out) on an advanced level for over 20 years, but it’s also for novice users. I’ve been using it for over 5 years without issue.

You’re not likely to be able to identify all processes manually because different models of computers come with different software, plus stuff like security suites, printer software, media players, digital camera software, download accelerators and music software all clutter the task list.
