Ok, it used to take like 10 or 15 minutes to load. Now it takes about 2 cause i used some tools and techniques to clean up the registry and deleted viruses and malware etc. i also defragmented.

So that’s great.
But it’s still sluggish in the beginning when the desktop is loaded. it takes a few minutes… even the start sound that should sound right after the Welcome screen…you hear it after few minutes or seconds after the desktop is loaded

what else can i do????

it’s windows xp sp2
the computer is a notebook Acer Aspire 5100

sometime ago my cousin dropped it and ever since it also started doing weird things. The dvd/cd drive also doesn’t work….it doesn’t load dvds/cds..in rare occasions it does.
NOTE!!! After the slug in the beginning when the desktop screen is loaded, then its really fast and responsive. It’s just in the beginning that it is sluggish.

I change the default settings to http://www.yahoo.com and every time i click the internet explorer button, the about blank page reopens as the default. I had removed some viruses and trojans earlier. Could it be because of this? Please help! I need this page to stop popping up.

My computer is full of viruses and I downloaded avira and zonealarm but I still get trojans every time I start up. A friend told me that I should re-install windows xp and this would fix it, however when I try to UNinstall the xp that’s on there on safemode command prompt it will not let me because I don’t not have the "registry information." However, I believe this would be impossible to obtain seeing as I bought the IBM used! I clearly don’t know very much about this but is there any other way to uninstall windows xp or can I just install it over the old one (or would the damage stick? ) ?
I don’t care about saving old info I just want a clean computer!

Tips are much appreciated 🙂

How do I clean my registry?

At least I think that’s what its called, I have never done it and my friend said that I should, but I am unsure how…

Can anyone help? Someone on yahoo gave me this link http://www.registryeasy.com/ for registry easy which does a free scan, is it safe (no viruses)?

Is there anyway to do this just with a program that came with my computer?

So here’s the low down… computer started acting up so I did a virus check with Spy Emergency. Software found three viruses which were deemed a high risk. Repaired infections, computer rebooted, then when it restarted I had the following error…

Windows can not start due to corrupted or missing file…

System32/DRIVERS/pci.sys

Please insert windows disk and select ‘R’ to repair.

Well, needless to say I no longer have my Windows disk because my ex decided to steal a good portion of my computer accessories when we split up, so I am wondering how I should go about repairing my system since I do not have the installation disk, without risking the loss of my files on the computer. I need to get my computer repaired ASAP as I need it for work. Many thanks to all who lend their suggestions!
