how are you trying to install the with the disk. is the computer on when you insert the disk? if so you are doin it wrong! shut your computer down.
press the power button and as soon as the computer begins to boot, hold the delete key or press f8 or f12 (this is different depending on the computer, infact dell computers have probably ten different ways to enter the boot sequence), you will need to change your boot sequence from /C
to cd/dvd drive . in some computers thsi drive could be labeled as drive d, e, or even f make sure you select this drive and not your hardive (cdrive).
now insert the disk in the drive "before you press enter". then hit enter
and windows xp setup screen will appear. for best results do a clean install. now for your problem with the install…..what partitions does the comouter show? you do not list ANY OF THEM! If you see a partition that says /C click on this partition and delete it. there may be a small partition for operating or computer system setup files (dont delete this)! once youve deleted the C/ partition, create a new partition
( the computer will automatically label it as /C for you. or you can input C as drive name. it sounds to me like you were trying to install
with the operating system on.. you need to follow my directions and boot the computer with installation cd in the drive. once again make sure you have selected for the computer to boot from cd/dvd drive.
also if you have never done a clean install before i have some bad news. theres these things called drivers, that your computer hardware and certain programs need in order to function. your computer will not work without them! you will need to figure out the make and model of your computer and then go to the computer manufactures site to find the device drivers for your computer. usually a device driver utility disk is shipped with the computer when you purchase it. so if your computer is a dell goto dell.com of hp goto hp.com, etc. once you have the drivers just double click on them and they will install on there own. just follow the onscreen guide. you will need these drivers in order to use your video card, ethernet port, sound card, etc. \\for final reminder…. make sure you delete old partition first. this will solve your problem!
maybe this
One or more of the random access memory (RAM) modules that are installed on your computer are faulty
