I installed windows xp home edition on an older computer(emachines, 366mhz, 128 ram) and now it crashes constantly. Sometimes I get the blue screen of death. It always says there is a different reason for the crash though. Other times it just reboots. I have tried registry cleaner programs but they seem to have made the problem worse. My computer only crashes occasionally if I use one program at a time. Using morpheus, winamp, and windows media player seem to increase the frequency of the crashes. Maybe my computer shouldn’t be running windows xp? But is there anything I can do to make my computer run smoothly?
Windows xp needs 128mb to run, so my ram should be good enough.

When I first bought my computer, they gave me the recovery disks for Windows XP, however, there was a lot of junk installed. I then clean installed vista and used it for about 2 years now. Now I need to install Windows XP again and I was wondering if there was a way to install it without all the junk on the discs. When I bought my computer they gave me 3 recovery discs(part 1,2 and 3) Then when I install XP I find all these trials and mini games. Anyway to get rid of them and only install XP?

I have a dell inspiron 2200 that I purchased in the summer of 2005. It still used windows xp. about a week ago, I tried to restart my computer and it simply wouldn’t boot. after further exploration, i noticed that it does begin to load. it goes through a few sequences then gets to the black screen where there is a large window’s icon and the little moving status bar underneath for about 20 seconds, then simply goes black with the cursor still movable and on the screen. I’ve let it sit for about thirty mins in this screen with no progress.

I’ve done thorough diagnostics in the boot menu by pressing f12 at the beginning of the startup process hoping to find a problem. nothing resulted.

I also don’t believe my laptop came with a boot disc. Looking through some of the original paperwork that came with it, i found something that says my computer does not require an operating system cd or drivers cds. instead, it tells me to reinstall software by using system restore… i’d love to do this if my comp would actually boot!

somebody please help.

thanks

Running a Registry cleaner?

Hi my desktop computer has just popped up the windows blue screen error. I have tried restarting the computer numerous times to no avail. I have been told to run a registry cleaner to help fix this problem. How do i run a registry cleaner on a computer that has the blue screen error that never goes away? We even tried booting from the windows xp disk but that didn’t work at all, the disk did not even load up.

How do I increase windows xp boot-up time. I have cleaned the programs from the start-up list. only comodo firewall and nvidia driver components are there.
Cleaned my PC from anti-virus, spyware and other malware.
Cleaned my registry.
Defragmented the registry and the hard drives.
Disabled unneeded devices.
But still my boot-up time is 1 minute. From the moment of the POST message to the usable desktop.
PC specs:
Intel p4 ht 3.20GHz.
512MB RAM
Nvidia Ge force 6600.
D945GNT motherboard.
160GB hard drive space.
Already used Advanced windows care and disabled the floppy drive seeking.
