I am trying to install Windows XP on a freshly formatted drive (NTFS formatted). Do I need to make it bootable before installing or anything else I should know?

I have an Acer Aspire One that runs Windows XP, and I would like to know if anyone knows of a really good virus protection/removal program that protects against all of the viruses and spyware and junk. I would prefer something that I can purchase in a store instaid of off the internet. Thank You!
I recently reinstalled a clean copy of windows xp on my computer. My speedstream 5100 no longer works with the computer, and i am unable to connect to the computer. What could be wrong. Do i eed to install new drivers or something?
