I need to ged rid of many programs and files on my computer but it takes a log time to do it one by one, I'd like to know how can I clean up my system since is runing slow and has too much junlk on it. I already tried to format the hard drive but it won't let me do it, I need help please…

My mom and I need to get rid of the temporary files on our computers and our cookies. Mom wrote it down but the lost the instructions. We need to know how to clean up our computer. Please help!

When I click the start button, then All Programs there are TOO MANY listings here.
I realize these are just shortcuts and I could go through and delete each one indiviually, but is there a way I can do this from windows explorer? Where I can select many at once to delete?
Any help is appreciated.
