I have a Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop that’s about 2.5 years old. It has a 60GB hard drive, Mobile AMD Sempron Processor 3500+ 1.79 GHz, 448 MB of RAM.

Last week my laptop just started to lag when I type, like it takes anywhere between 1-5 seconds for the thigs I type to show up on the screen. This includes word processing, chatting, internet explorer, etc. Around the same time I also noticed that my laptop was taking 5-10 minutes to notice when I plugged things into my USB drive like my mouse, digital camera, or webcam. Since then, here are all the things I’ve tried to correct the problem.
-Do a system restore to a time a few weeks ago before the priblem began.
-Ran avast free antivirus software
-Ran antivir free anitvirus software
-Ran tweaknow registry cleaner
-Ran superantispyware free edition
-Ran malwarebytes anti-malware free edition
-Defragmented the hard drive
-Checked the C drive for errors using windows
-Deleted my temporary internet files
-Tried to free up space on my hard drive using the windows tools
-Went through the control panel and uninstalled any software I don’t use
-Went to the task manager and saw what was running and googled anything that looked suspicious, but I’m not very computer savvy so I’m not sure how successful this was.

I’m a medical student and this makes it VERY hard to take notes on PowerPoint during lecture. Everything is functional, but very slow and annoying.

Hello!

I’ve got XP Pro 32-bit and want to upgrade to Vista 64-bit.

I’ve heard that this isn’t possible and that a clean install must be done.

If so, what do I have to do to make sure that everything is backed up and works once the clean install is finished?

For example, I have plenty of games and programs installed on my C drive–do I need to backup my registry *and* my C drive so that everything won’t need to be reinstalled?

If so, how would I go upon doing that?

Thanks!

-Cody

How do I wipe computer clean?
I am selling my computer. I want to wipe it clean so its like new. I have no CD’s for it. I dont want to keep anything on it. How do I wipe it clean?
Someone said to format the C drive or something but i cant see the format button?

In my approximately 30G C: Drive, the Program Files and Windows folders pretty much take up the entire drive, leaving me with only 896MB available. I have an additional 240G drive with plenty of space, but my computer stills runs slow because of the C: drive issue. Is there a way to clean up the C: drive or possibly transfer the folders in question to my other drive? Please help…
